People who have a 9-5 but do a little freelance on the side. Did you tell your employer about the freelance work?

Never tell your employer, think about it from their point of view, if I was the boss I would be thinking like this:

* Is he/she fully dedicated and focused to our business or are they checking emails and this and that for their personal business during the day. You can say you only do it during break and lunch times but I’m not going to believe you and you will be watched closely and your performance will be scrutizined.
* If their personal business starts to do well then they may want to leave and I will have to find a replacement, maybe I should start looking now.
* If you’re working after hours everyday then that would explain why you are tired during the day for my business, again back to point 1.
* If you’re in a management position then how is it going to look to your subordinates, maybe they will start doing side jobs and not focus on my business also.Whether you have a nice boss or not you are actually putting them in a difficult position. They may actually be fine with it but it’s best not to let them know.

Using company Udemy for learning and of course I must test the theories in the real world…what responsible employee wouldn’t test their knowledge?

At first I did. Got me in trouble (January)… Continued working as a freelancer but kept it for myself… and now I’m about to quit my job and go fulltime freelancing.
