**First of all check his response time** …. If you contact any SEO specialist then see how freequently the are replying for your email or message.

**Check his online reputation** …. Ask him for his website or firm or agency name and check online reputation / review, visibility etc.. A good agency manage proper his social and online profile and you can see about his reputation there easily.

**Check what services he is providing** …… SEO specialist will provide on page and off page both types of services. So check what types of services he is providing. Check his website or ask him that what services he is providing. If not managing website then it can be suspicious.

**Ask for strategies for your website** … Generally SEO strategies change according to niche market and competition, So ask him that what plan / strategies he will follow to give you desired position.

**Check his track record** …. Ask for portfolio or any previous successful project.

There can be more point but these main are in my mind till now.

As far as keyword goes. If you Google seo specialist + your city the guys in organic search near the top and are also in ppc adverts will be worth a shout. Then you know they can rank their own biz based on their keywords and are using ppc in a way that’s at the very least showing them in search. If they can’t rank their own key words how can they rank yours

very simply, ask him for a portfolio or examples of strategies he’s carried out. Not clients, a case study. In the same way, a real agency or a real specialist will give you a pre-mission audit. And call in several specialists, and don’t choose on price: a real seo specialist may cost a lot, but he’ll earn you a lot.

Usually after the effects. Ask for examples and verify your skills.

I think you should ask him to show his previous work. How well he is able to explain and with what level of confidence should give you a gut feeling if the person is skilled enough to hire for your job or not.

By the way, I have been doing SEO since last 10 years and have ranked my affiliate websites for highly valuable and competitive terms on Google. I have recently started doing client side SEO, as well, and I can do the job for you if given the chance.

If you don’t mind we can talk further about this in DMs.

TBH there is no specific Answer for that. But Maximum you can do.

Give him a task to do. Give him your website or niche and ask him to do complete analysis and show you the report.

Then ask him who are your competitors and what they are doing and what he can do to make your website better.

It is best to look at their agency websites or personal websites and see if they have a good position for “SEO + location” keywords.
Another important question is do you feel good working and communicating with them because SEO is all about execution. SEO professionals are everywhere, but if you can work with them smoothly, everything will be easier.

Try find someone from your local city, check past references specific to your niche. Cross check that with the actual client, collect feedback. Understand how do they do? What outcome can you expect and everything.

Actual outcome is directly proportional to the amount of efforts and monthly investment.

They are in: US, CAN, AUS, UK

They have case studies and social proof (not ahrefs screenshots)

    They have a risk reversal

The best way is absolutely referrals. Ask around and try to find someone that you know/trust has an SEO that they like.

Another unique way is to find a site with great SEO, then snoop around to find out who does that person’s SEO.

Last, reddits actually pretty good. Look for people with lots of karma/engagement in this community.

Pay them to do an audit. Also, gauging an SEOs worth on backlinking is worthless. Most link building is outsourced or paid for. Building backlinks is probably the hardest thing to do in SEO as a sole proprietor. Do you want him spending everyday sending outreach emails, or do you want to pay him for SEO? If you need backlinks, outsource it or hire an outreach specialist who already has the connections needed to generate those backlinks.

See the KW’s in their title and see if they rank for them.
