Paid ads work. Organic SEO doesn’t. What am I missing?

Hey everyone,
I’m getting pretty good at lead gen, but SEO is honestly my weak spot.

Paid ads work for me, but my organic results are basically zero. I know the usual advice — “create content, build backlinks, be consistent” — but I’m trying to understand what actually works in 2026.
If you were starting SEO for a real local business today, would you focus on AI-assisted content, backlinks, local SEO, programmatic SEO, something else?

I’m not looking to become a full-time manual content writer just to make SEO work. I want to understand the system behind it and build something that actually generates traffic and leads.

Business: Appliance & Plumbing Store in California.
