  • Will Google start telling us when AI content has caused a negative ranking?

Posted by dano1066 on May 16, 2023 at 3:38 pm

Google have changed their attitude toward AI content, they at least allow it but they give priority to non AI content. This seems unfair because a lot of these AI detectors are unreliable. What if content that I write 100% by hand is flagged as being AI written and this negatively impacts ranking?

I understand that if they tell us, people will learn to game the system and can instruct AI to write in a way that bypasses these rules but it seems like the false positives here could be a big issue. Especially when I read the content that I write and then read what chat GPT does when it corrects my writing. The AI content is simply better. Why shouldnt i use it?

Lets say i write a list of pros and cons about a product with some notes on my feelings and ask GPT turn this data into a full review. The content it produces is fantastic. This is surely better for the reader than me trying to write it by hand.

This feels a bit like the argument of handmade being better than made by a machine on the assembly line. Sometimes machines do things better. Sometimes they do not. A flat rule to say anything handmade is better than machine made seems wrong and doing so with AI written content also feels this way.

Google since its inception has been fighting SEO’ers trying to game the system

Substandard AI generated (or human generated) drivel will be recognized by google and disfavored

If you are going to make that deal with the AI devil, you are going to have to go through each post and sparkle them up to take the mediocre AI shine off of them and of course make them keyword relevant

AI is somewhat of an unknown now. But genuine helpful, useful and thoughtful content related to the subject will always be favored to artificial

“This seems unfair because a lot of these AI detectors are unreliable. ”

No, they are not. The one that I use (Originality AI) has a 95.3% precision. I tested that and verified myself. It is incredible.

Doubtful. Google hasn’t ever really told us when something causes negative ranking beyond a manual action.

Learn to write or support people who write and design for a living rather than taking the AI route.

Ai writing is just a cheaper way method of hiring high school interns to read blog articles and shit the same information back out into the blog section of your website. It’ll do about as well as that, which is to mean it’ll get practically no traffic the majority of the time

Let’s suppose you are great at putting things to perspective. However, you are not good at putting that perspective into words. So, what you gonna do? Well, AI is there to help and convert your perspective into some great words and eventually a piece of content. Now, it’s upto you whether that perspective (that now has taken shape of an article or blog) adds value to the web or not. If it does, then it will surely get the attention of Google because that’s what it is looking for – something different, something more valuable, something more helpful, and something that is not already out there. In all of this process, AI will just arrange the words for you, but the thing behind the perspective of the content will be your brain. I don’t think that would be considered AI content. Or would that?

They don’t prioritize non ia content !
They prioritize original content which is more likely to happen without IA

I heard it said that many times that they will probably judge AI-generated content similar to duplicate content, which seems like common sense.

    1. If you use AI to create hyper-mediocre articles, it’s like copy-pasting from Wikipedia, etc. Why would you expect something to rank that’s just a copy of a copy of a copy?
    2. If you use AI to assist you in creating unique helpful content, then why shouldn’t it be ranked like 100% human written.
    3. Most (esp. financial & sport) news outlets are using AI to spin up new clickbaity “content” everyday, which doesn’t seem to be demoted at all.

    >Google have changed their attitude toward AI content

Not they haven’t. They never had a problem with AI content.

    >but they give priority to non AI content.

No they don’t. They claim they give priority to helpful or useful content, but even that is pretty debatable.

But you are not simply ‘creating content’. You are producing the content that your client’s ‘core audience’ are learning from.

Two brick and mortar stores next door to each other are producing completely different marketing material from each other. Likewise two identical stores in different cities. Sure use AI for a foundation if you feel the need to take on the Multi-nationals in your client’s market, but being better rather than producing more content directly for your prospect community.

As someone who is ranking well with AI content, I have no idea what you are talking about.

AI-generated content itself does not necessarily have a negative impact on SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Search engines like Google evaluate web pages based on various factors such as relevance, quality, user experience, and many others. As long as the AI-generated content meets these criteria, it can potentially rank well in search results.

However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind when using AI-generated content for SEO:

    1. Quality and Relevance: Search engines prioritize high-quality content that is relevant to users’ search queries. If AI-generated content lacks depth, coherence, or relevance, it may not perform well in search rankings. Ensuring the content is valuable, engaging, and tailored to the target audience is crucial.

    2. Originality: Search engines favor original content. If AI-generated content is simply a regurgitation or compilation of existing content, it may be considered duplicate content, which can harm SEO. It’s important to review and edit AI-generated content to make it unique and original.

    3. User Experience: AI-generated content should enhance the overall user experience on your website. If it results in a poor user experience, such as confusing or nonsensical sentences, it can negatively impact SEO. It’s important to review and refine AI-generated content to ensure it is user-friendly.

    4. Ethical Considerations: Depending on the context and purpose, using AI-generated content without proper disclosure or attribution may raise ethical concerns. Violating ethical guidelines can harm your brand reputation and, consequently, affect SEO indirectly.

Ultimately, the impact of AI-generated content on SEO depends on how it aligns with the factors search engines consider when evaluating and ranking web pages. By focusing on quality, relevance, originality, and user experience, you can mitigate any potential negative impact and leverage AI-generated content effectively for SEO purposes.

I rank very well with AI content. I have a DA 0 site in a competitive niche and I rank 1st page for a few dozen articles, and have numerous winning snippets. Not sure where you got this information from but it’s not accurate.

Its so clear to me when content is written by AI so even though they say its ok now, if they are truly google then they will eventually close this loop
