When do you like to increase bids in Google Search Ads?

Posted by No_Analysis_89 on July 31, 2023 at 11:33 am

Hey all. I usually use smart bidding in my search campaigns but I’m tempted to try manual bidding for a while.

When would you recommend increasing (or decreasing) your bids on keywords? How much do you prefer to increase/decrease your bids by?

    1) it depends on your market/audiance

    2) it depends on your market/audiance

Did you honestly think there was some kind of blanket rule for manual bidding that covers every use case?

Is your abs. top impression rate lower than you’d like? Is your profitability within your acceptable range? Can you handle more traffic/conversions/sales? Those would be three of the first things I’d look at.

When is dependent on your needs but I’d start with incremental of 10% and let them run for at least 7 days then monitor if your cpc/CPA /key metrics for you went up or down. I find that results get slightly worse when increasing sometimes but then start to level out after a small period of time.

Increase your bids by 10-20% if a keyword is performing well, or by a larger amount if you’re trying to reach a specific goal. Decrease your bids by 10-20% or more if a keyword is not performing well or if you’re trying to save money. Track your results after making any changes to your bids to see if they’re having a positive or negative impact on your campaign.

    I’m intrigued, why use manual?

Why would you move away from smart bidding? Also, your existing data will tell you when to add bid adjustments, not a sub Reddit forum lol.

That said, once you adjust, never do more than 20% at a time. I usually stick with 15% as a rule of thumb.
