At this point, both IG and FB are basically controlled by ads. If you want to grow, the best way is to buy. Yes, there are organic ways, if you put in the time, get lucky and creative. But you are late to the game and the good spots are already taken.

    Couple quickies:

Set your Instagram profile to business profile.

Connect your Facebook account to your Instagram account.

Set up paid ads for your Instagram using Facebook Ads. (IE: you’ll be on facebook setting up your instagram ads)

Pay for clicks to your website. Don’t pay for impressions or followers. (HOWEVER, DO pay for impressions if you think you’re posting something that has the potential to go viral.)

Target rich people, married, masters degree or PhD, Manhattan NY, LA, Hollywood, Rodeo Drive, and San Fran CA, that have specifically shown to be art buyers.

You mean an Instagram account dedicated to posting art? This is all anecdotical evidence, so take it with a grain of salt, but I’d say: fanart.

Find something/someone you really like and do fanart of it, then use the appropriate hashtags/try getting that person’s attention. You have to actually like it, though, so it _is_ and feels genuine.

I got into watercolor last year, and I’d illustrate my favorite lines from spoken word poets and tag them in the posts just so my friends knew who the quotes were from. 90% of the time, the poets would repost my art or at least like and comment on it, and I’d get an influx of traffic and followers thanks to that.

Same the other way around. I follow a couple of YouTubers pretty closely and when they review/repost fanart, I’ll check out the artist account, and if I like what I see, I’ll follow them.

Same thing with hashtags. I love Greek mythology, and it’s not an easy hobby to keep up in the real world, so I just started following the #Greekmythology and though I do get a lot of Percy Jackson stuff suggested, whenever I see a cool fanart, I’ll like it of even follow the account.

People are saying ads, but I’d never really followed an artist that advertised themselves to me. And I’ve had a lot of musician ads lately. I know they’re indie and in that grind, trying to get their music out there, but idk. At least for me, artistic ads don’t feel genuine.

You can post your art on Instagram story and also your Instagram wall with some good content. Also, Instagram allows you to post sponsored ads. Influencer marketing will also help to promote the art on Instagram.

Hey I think the best way depends on where you are with your following and engagement rate.

There is some money that needs to be spent to start getting more followers. Tagging the artists who’s art is close to yours is also a way to start. Finding pages that have a following close to yours and offer to advertise each other pages like that you don’t have to pay for shout-outs would be great.

Also depends how good your art is be careful with the places and countries you target with the ads, westerners tend to be more critical and the market more saturated. Check Asian countries ( Vietnam, Indonesia….) at least to raise your following then switch back to other ones your are more interested in .

Patience is important, and keep in mind it is a learning curve allow yourself to fail.
