Google SERP is sufficient for a thorough keyword research, provided you do no care about search volume.
    You can:
    1. Try the Google Alphabet Soup – Essentially, you append every English alphabet one after other, after your main keyword. For example, if your main keyword is – how to start fishing, but it’s too competitive, you can search How to start fishing a, then b, c, d…
    2. Google’s related searches and People Also Ask section of the SERP are super helpful too.
    3. You can also check out YouTube autosuggest in the same way.
    4. Google images can also provide some useful keywords.

    [KeywordTool.io](https://KeywordTool.io) for a seed keyword.

With that seed keyword you can use AnswerThePublic and get more results from that keyword.

If you want to get very specific you can use KeywordShitter.

Also check for People Also Asked on results.

Best tools obviously are paid tools. If you want to be serious in SEO, and make a living out of it, you should definitely invest in a tool that brings you that key data.

    For me i’d say :

    – semrush

    -keywordtool.io

    – wordtracker.com

    – yooda (premium) at some point

    – [ahrefs.com](https://ahrefs.com)

All free tools i found are NOT usefull, not practical for an actual decision making. You can’t take a decision if Google trends tells you (broad keyword) shoes is 20% less searched than socks or if Google Keyword planner says 1 to 10k / month.

Is it 1k or 10k : it makes a huge difference when it come to targetting a keyword.

If there was a FREE site that gave an accurate trafic estimation, those tools would not sell hundeds of dollars a month.

Use [Trends.Google.com](https://Trends.Google.com) to evaluate the Volumes.

Use Google Search box by typing the main keyword and see what Google does suggest as long tail.

Use Google Search Console to spot keywords you wouldn’t have thought about.

You can keep it up for a few months using that method. Once you’ll reach enough revenues, pay for SEMrush
