  • What is the average length of a client-agency relationship?

I’m trying to crunch some numbers, and would love to hear how long on average clients stay with your SEO agency. That’s assuming you have an agency or work in one.

For example, is it 6 months, or 25 months etc? Care to take a guess?

Mine are usually 3-6 months or forever. Just had my first long time client leave after 12 years. kinda hurt to be honest. They just out grew us, I know it, they knew it. We did our job.

I find we’re either a good fit or we’re not within than 3-6 months.

it depends on if they REALLY need you. I would say around 3 to 5 years for me so far…

It’s hard to keep them when they’re starters. Most of the SEO work done is quite different than the one you do for larger organizations.

For starters, you will focus on onsite, fixing SEO issues and building Content on Search Terms. For established ones, you will have to focus on offsite, prospecting for genuine authority backlinks, which looks very much like as sales job rather than background tech.

The only way to stay in a growing organization is to establish a Roadmap from the start, where you’ll explain how the tasks and budgets will grow with the organization.

Starters leave after 6 months in average. Large organization like P&G and such stay for years, they foster the relationship.
