  • What happens when you redirect a high ranking page?

Posted by UnitedTrouble on December 12, 2022 at 10:54 am

I am dealing with the a newly launched rebranded website which has an old website(on a different domain). The old website has some high ranking articles that drive decent organic traffic. What would happen if there high ranking articles were to redirected to the new website? Would they still continue to rank for earlier keywords even with redirects? Or is It a good idea to have a banner on the articles that will take users to the new website?

I am conflicted and would like your expert suggestions please.

    Thanks!

The problem with redirecting pages is, google has lots of data about the original page so knows how good this page is, moving it to another page your starting from scratch google has to crawl and gather all this data again, usually it would rank similar to the original page, but obviously there is no guarantee of this so it’s always a risk google may not like the new page as much, so really don’t move it unless you really have good reason to
