For someone who can write GOOD content and understands SEO at an intermediate level would cost about how much per article?

I’d switch from looking for “the best SEO writer” to “the best instruction follower”. After hiring dozens of freelancers it’s clear that mountains of experience, higher price, or an expensive agency don’t always corelate with “best”.

Spend time determining what makes a killer article in your eyes (competition, elements, subheadings) and ask for a similar article as a test. It’s even better if you could build a template.

Once you have a clear idea of what you want it just comes down to finding someone with happy medium between cost and experience who can follow directions.

Generally I’ve found success hiring freelance writers with less than 3 years of experience for around 3 cents per word. The trick is offering a paid test or two and waiting until someone overdelivers. Once you’re confident they can follow a template the way you want it’s worth paying extra to keep them happy.

I write reasonably good articles. Don’t do it for money, just for my own website. It ranks decently.

My English is not bad, but it’s still a second language.

Hiring a good editor does make a difference. Over the years, my articles take fewer and fewer edits, but it’s still a good idea.

Good editor prices start from about 50 $ for an article that isn’t very short (1000+ words).

Research for an article, making the right pictures etc. can take hours, even when writing on a topic I’m knowledgeable about (I don’t write on topics I don’t know much about).

On top of that, my government income taxes are quite high (about 50% for small-time freelance work or 400 $ per month fixed if you do it full time).

How much am I happy with earning per hour? In my opinion, charging under 50 c per word would mean I’m underpaid. If I were looking to make a living off writing, I’d be looking for clients willing to pay me at least that.

I pay my guys 4p a word but then I subedit it afterwards at a cost of about 2p a word. These are native English speakers. My content isn’t too hard so I think £20 an hour for my subcontractors is very achievable.

I usually get paid anywhere from $70-$100 per article with an average length of 1300 words. All articles are publish ready upon submission.

Some charge 50cpw or more. Depends on what you’re looking for in terms of quality. Writers who have ten years or more experience aren’t writing content for 3cpw-not now-not ever.

That question is more dependent on the market. I for example charge between $120 – $150 per blog article.
