What do SEO’ers want to tell web designers?
Hey everyone!
I am writing an article, that’s more like a checklist for web designers to use when building and designing websites, from an SEO and website health perspective. I am working with web designers currently on various projects and they all agree you should build a website from scratch as opposed to using a pre-made WordPress theme (like Divi). Their reasoning is that when building from scratch it is cleaner code, and better for load times, rendering times, CLS etc…
I have tested their websites on Lighthouse (on the chrome inspect tool), and tested it against websites we have also made on Divi, and yet Divi seems to be scoring much higher in terms of website health.
When dissecting the lighthouse audit I can see that there are clearly factors that the web designers aren’t taking into account which has prompted me to make a checklist, lining up all of the best practices from these online auditors as well as SEO best practices.
I would love to hear your thoughts on what you feel web designers should be aware of from an SEO perspective?

I think SEO is not just writing meta title, meta description, or alt text for the images. He also has a good knowledge of web development. He knows about marketing, good at maintaining excel, and can think from an end-user point of view.
As in your case, your requirement is that your web pages should load fast and developers know that they need to write the code from scratch.
What if developers don’t know? SEO should not come with a problem, they should come with a solution then they will call experts for their field.
It’s not just like you just check the speed on the GT matrix and ordered the developer to make corrections. You need to find the cause and solution for a problem.
Digital Marketing and SEO can be a great career for the future if they have a good knowledge of every aspect that is related to a website from the inception to the feedback from the end-user.

Stop adding your web design company’s url to the homepage. It’s bad form and hurts the client’s ranking.

EXPLAIN TO YOUR CLIENTS THAT SEO WILL BUILD VISIBILITY, A WEBSITE WITHOUT IT IS NOT GOING TO BE AS USEFUL AS IT COULD BE!!!
