What do I need to spend on Google Shopping Ads per day to make it worth it?

Posted by CelticsAreTrashCans on December 7, 2023 at 9:23 pm

My business sells high priced machinery for between $2k-4k. We are thinking of budgeting somewhere between $90-100 USD a day for the shopping ads. Is that enough budget to get a decent return on there?

Beauty of Google is that there is no minimum. Could pay $20 and get 3 clicks and 1 sale per day. Probably start small so you can review data, optimise your feed (copy, imagery, pricing) before throwing higher daily budgets.

There is no set spend to “make it worth it”.

It will be worth as long as you get a positive ROI and sell the volume you need to hit your goals.

Start with the budget you have in mind and then optimize it according to results.

I assume you’re going to pay a little bit more per click because that’s typically the case for higher-priced products. With that, a $2k-$3k budget per month is very decent and will let you know if you can turn a consistent profit within a month to 45 days.

If this is B2B ecom, could cost $50 – $100 for one conversion potentially. So you might get 1 – 2 sales a day once things are headed in the right direction. $100/day is fine but it comes down to how much it will cost to acquire a customer. Plus is there a big enough audience to spend that budget each day in your target country.

Depends what is your AOV. If its $499, you won’t get much by spending $20 a day.

Depends on how many products you’re spreading that budget across. But to answer your question we have a couple campaigns that target items in the 3-6K range at $40 per day. They do great, but require patience and a long term view.

More useful question is how many clicks do you need to buy to know what your projected ROI will be.

Statistically somewhere between 40-100 clicks (FOR EACH KEYWORD YOU TARGET) should start to tell a picture. But, more than that will always be better.

$90-100/day could be spent wisely on good target keywords with a good return, or it could be spent poorly on low converting audiences and keywords.

If your average ticket is $2k-$4k… you might find that one click costs $100.

This is a very vague question I get asked a lot. It all depends on the industry, search volumes, country, objective, Etc. Find yourself a good professional an do a leap of faith by trusting him/her so as to have a tailor made answer to your question

What’s your customer’s behaviour and path to purchase?

Is it likely that customer will buy high priced machinery outright from a few photographs, maybe a video and a 300 word description? If not, then shopping ads are probably not for you.

If it’s a considered B2B purchase that usually involves a procurement department, a team of people and sign off on the customer’s side then you probably want to put your $100 into lead gen.

Depends on a couple of different factors but for reference I work at a marketing agency and for small clients we usually say our starting minimum is $500 a month which is $16.44 a day. Depending on the keywords and CPC this could be a limiting budget but it allows us to show proof of concept to clients who aren’t sure if it works. I recommend you start small and test out what works and what doesn’t before going ham. You can raise or reduce your budget as needed
