  • What aspect(s) of social media platforms do you find most useful in your life?

I feel like there are a small number of features on a social media platform that I consistently use and completely disregard the rest. For example, Twitter came out with a **Lists** product that I have yet to use, despite being very active on their site, simply because I do not have a use case for it. I’m sure the list of *unused* features is much longer than the list of *good*. The purpose of this post is to see if my use cases are subjective to my lifestyle or more generally agreed upon across the board.

Here are a few examples of features I *personally use* across popular social media sites:

    |*Social Media Platform*|*Feature*|*Use Case*|
    |:-|:-|:-|
    |Snapchat|Snapchat Maps “SnapMaps”|Casually check where people are in the world out of curiosity.|
    |Twitter|List of Liked Tweets|I am curious to see what my peers find interesting|
    |LinkedIn|2nd and 3rd Connections|Before meeting someone new, I like to see if we have any mutual connections|
    |Instagram|Profile Posts|If I need to put a face to a name|
    |Facebook|Posts|Life updates/milestones of people I knew a “lifetime ago”|

I use the feauture to send a personal message when I add people on LinkedIn. I’ll tell them a bit about myself and say I’m looking to make new connections.
I’m building an amazing network that way!

Under ‘Page Transparency’ on a page, you can see their entire ad history. Good for snooping on businesses you like or are competing with.

I’ve used Twitter lists for years. I have lists around specific cities, business categories, interest categories like Radio/TV, Writers, etc. I find it quite useful when I just am checking to see what’s going on in my local area or a city I’m about to visit.

Overall, I use Twitter for developing news stories, business, and to see trends. I don’t find Twitter as useful for business as I did a few years ago.

Facebook I use for friends and family and business acquaintances that I have a personal relationship with. I also have a Facebook page for business. I also belong to several groups to get things like help with software, biz issues, or hobbies.

LinkedIn I use for researching potential clients.

Instagram I use for posting photos, videos, and for branding.

I use YouTube for business as well as the usual entertainment and research.

I use MarcoPolo for video messaging.

I haven’t used TikTok or Snapchat.

I only use social media for business research.
