What am I doing wrong with conversion tracking??

Posted by SecondNo7343 on May 6, 2024 at 9:47 pm

After Google Tag website install is done on the client website, Tag Assistant confirms that it's detectable and had a conversion "hit sent" but in Google Ads, the conversion action still says "inactive"? Very confused because I know the code is installed and detected and that a conversion hit was counted but there is no info in Google Ads Conversion Summary.

What am I doing wrong? I have a few different conversion actions (none active) for when they click on the button to schedule and page views for the scheduling URL. The phone tag isn't working yet but I know I haven't installed that secondary phone number snippet yet.

Test conversions won’t show up in Google Ads. There needs to be an actual conversion through a click on a Google Ad for the conversion to count in Google Ads. If you are testing in GTM and you see the hit, then that would just confirm that your code is firing correctly in GTM, but that wouldn’t get pulled into Google Ads.

If you are testing and see the Google Ads conversion tag fire on the conversion page in GTM, then it should show up in Google Ads whenever someone actually clicks on your ad and actually converts.

Let me know if I misunderstood your question

You need to use GTM preview and GA Debugg took to do this. I would check your tag and event perameters. I also suspect the tag is not linked correctly to the right conversion ID + label in Google ads….did you check that?

If its not working in Preview or Debug Mode—-> it will not show up perdiod. Here is a conversion tracking video I made: [https://youtu.be/Ec0Vqq5gy8k?si=JTydptxKrweEYfas](https://youtu.be/Ec0Vqq5gy8k?si=JTydptxKrweEYfas)

We wait up to 1-day after the tag installation and verification for the status to change to active, and it always does

Wait 2-3 days, one of my account needed almost a week to stream conversions properly, while others only 1-2 days, with exact same integration.

I had the exact same issue and my friend came in, deleted the campaign as it originally had too many conversion goals, once he deleted the campaign and created the new campaign and had a single conversion goal (user landing on the URL), the status changed from “inactive” to “active” and it started working.

    Hope this helps!
