In other words, do people still read blog-type content and, if so, are there any social media advertising strategies (primarily paid but also organic) which can be employed to get in front of users who still reading articles?

Absolutely. I got hundreds of visits via social and organic for blog posts that were industry specific and offered value.

Yes I think so. The key is relevance: is the content of the blog article relevant to your audience at that time? Also, repurposing blog articles can be an amazing strategy: making an infographic out of an article, dropping a couple of slides on LinkedIn to tease the content, partnering with another industry related brand to write a white paper, etc. In terms of how to promote to drive audience, I think you should think the other way around: “what are they interested to read” and not “how can I attract them to read”. Some ideas to drive attention can be recording the ideas in that blog on a podcast, delivering them on a newsletter that your audience signed up for, etc

Having the influencers or blog writers find you is another method. That is the true arbitrage of influencers.
