Using Custom Audience Interests and Keywords Concurrently

Posted by seohelper on July 4, 2021 at 9:36 pm

Hi all, I am pretty new with Google Ads so sorry if this is an easy question.

I have a campaign running that is using a custom audience. The custom audience is created based on interests. In addition, I have added keywords that I want the add to come up when people search for it.

My question is what takes precedence – the custom audience interests or the keywords? If someone searches one of one of my keywords but is NOT in my custom audience criteria, will the ad show up? And vice versa, if someone is in my custom audience but does not search one of my keywords, will it still show up there?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

For search ads, the keywords are the most important.

If your audience does not search for any of your keywords then the ad will never show up.

In the creation of the custom, audience check if you have kept the audience to targeting or observation.

If it is targeting then when your audience searches for related keywords you have provided only then the ad is shown.

    1. Searches for your KW
    2. In custom audience
    3. Ad is shown

If it is observation, then your ads can be shown to people who search for your keywords but are not in your custom audience

    1. Searches for your KW
    2. NOT In custom audience
    3. Ad is shown

    Thank you
