Trying to get freelance work doing google ads for local business w out experience but offering first month 0 commission. Am I wasting my time?

I’ve been interested in doing google ads as a job, I’ve gotten my google search and google measurement certifications which Ik is useless after reading the logical answers why, seeing “you need experience to show work for an agency or try families business” i was suggested by a very smart and successful friends dad to try and do local businesses, ask doctors, dentists, restrataunts etc. will I have any luck? The only “experience” I have is provided in a couple screenshots where I got 20k impressions 2k clicks 9.27 ctr 0.25 cpc, while doing a method I found on YouTube where u look for software companies w affiliate programs that aren’t running there own ads and run ads w ur affiliate link (obviously ends up not working cuz all that I’ve ran into have terms stating no use of brand key words) but yeah those were my results of my first week trying this and was impressed w it given I hadn’t even learned about optimizing yet at that time. Anyways will asking local doctors dentists restaurants to do google ads for them telling them why they should, what I know etc. be a waste of time even if I offer free service until they see results. I want freelance google ads work and hopefully the local aspect adds more of a trust in becoming my first client as opposed to trying to get any random online company to hire me

You’re obviously putting effort into learning and putting that into action, which is great!

Getting a junior position at an agency big enough to help support your development is definitely what I’d recommend. With the proactive steps you’ve already taken I’m sure you can land a job in no time.

I personally recommend against freelancing with no experience, there’s a potential minefield ahead of you with no guidance at hand. Aside from the technical elements of PPC it’ll also be on you to be your own salesman, finance director, support team, etc.

Get a couple of years under your belt at an agency and then consider setting up on your own.

Whatever you decide, good luck! You’ll do great!

You’re correct that violating the affiliate program guidelines won’t be a good plan.

Doctors, maybe but you’ll never get the doctor on the phone cold calling.

    Dentists, maybe but same problem.

Restaurants, same problem except it’s the owner you can’t reach.

Sometimes a manager you can reach makes the decision and just needs a nod for the owner, that the manager will get because the owner rubber stamps everything.

Cold calling to sell google ads was hard when I was doing it starting out 15 years ago. It’s dramatically harder now.

My agency doesn’t require experience, but we don’t have any open positions right now. If I’m you, do I study google ads pretty hard then fudge my resume to meet the work experience requirement so I can get that first job? Maybe.

    Good luck!

you are wasting time and killing your potential clients. bcz google ads requires a lot of tweking that one cannot learn from youtube tutorials. But i do understand that one has to start from somewhere. so i will say close 1 client and make sure he has the best possible ads setup then see whats working and whats not working, learn for a few months and then try to expand.

hell, i can even give you suggestions bcz i remember the first time i started out and had no one to guide me.

i wish you best of luck

You are wasting your time. Get a job as a coordinator at an agency first. No one is going to trust you with their ad spend when you literally are experimenting with a platform you barely work in.

    Those metrics mean nothing.
