  • Trying to figure out the cause of a drop in organic traffic

I’ve recently started managing the SEO for my company website and I’ve noticed a slow but steady drop in both organic traffic and organic keywords for the last three months. We use the free version of Ahrefs, which sends monthly updates on organic keyword positions. We currently don’t use any paid software for managing SEO.
There has also been a slight drop in backlinks over this 90-day period (but it has increased slightly if you look at the last 30 days).
Could anyone please point me in the right direction to figure out why there is a drop in traffic and keywords and how to turn this around? I’m relatively new to this side of the business so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

What’s your industry? Could be seasonal.

Compare year on year traffic in Analytics to find out.

Can you check competitors through ahrefs? You’re never in a vacuum, drop in traffic for you could mean increase for someone else. Have you dug down to see what pages have had the biggest drop in traffic specifically?
