  • Trademark Issue Need To Change Domain Name But Rank #1 and #2

    Hey There,

I was just about to Trademark my domain name and bam it was taken just a few weeks before. I am now in a position where I can prove prior use, sell my blog, or start a new blog with a new domain name.

Problem is, my page ranks 1 and 2 for the domain name when you search for it on google. I am prepared to give that up, but for the other posts will the SEO decrease as well?

Of course it will. If I understood you correctly, you want to change domains. That means anything under your new domain will have a different link profile than before, different history of who knows what that Google uses for ranking etc.

Don’t eorry too much tho if it’s an easy niche. I’m sure you will manage to achieve the same.

Is the other trade mark in the same Nizza class? Even if it is, you can still file a registration yourself if it’s clearly for different products. Trade marks are only there to avoid confusions. If your product is not very similar to that of the other registration, then you should have good chances of still registering your own trade mark. Some classes like class 9 are very broad, so just judging by the class is not sufficient, but I’m not a lawyer.
