It is bad to have a title of 62 characters if the good practices are 60 maximum.

The same for the meta description, if it exceeds 5-10 characters it is wrong not to follow this guideline?

These are guidelines and best practices, not requirements. Is it wrong/bad to exceed these limits? Not necessarily. It’s that the most optimized titles and descriptions will adhere to those guidelines. That is part of “optimization”.

Google also changes these elements automatically to fit search terms or intent, at times. So searchers may not even necessarily see the words you provided. That said, put your keywords as close to the beginning as possible and make sure that the title and description are related to the pages content.

Also worth noting that it’s pixel width that counts more than character count. If you have text that contains a lot of ls, it’s going to take up much less space than the same text with ws in place of the ls

Please avoid the number game. If title is long enough don’t bother about it, Google is smart enough to truncate and show the required title to the user as per the query.

Try to write catchy titles and appealing meta description which attracts user to click it.

Ps: play with keywords so that search engine can too find it 🙂

I do 70-80, leaning towards 70. Those were the guidelines years ago and it’s working out well. Anything lower than this often gets flagged on “SEO check” sites, anways.

For meta description (and title), it doesn’t matter. The first ~150 characters show up in the search, so optimize for that, but you can go with however many you’d like after those initial characters. My understanding is that “meta tags/titles/descriptions” haven’t mattered since the first Penguin updates, but it’s still good practise to use them.
