  • TikTok engagement and growing?

Hi! A little background: I recently began making music and am relatively new to social media in general.

On Tiktok specifically, I’m using it to post 1 min. drum covers of well known songs due to the nature of the platform. I looks like it’s doing well in terms of engagement? Almost all of my videos get ~300-500 views, ~80-150 likes, ~5-15 comments, and few or no shares. I already use hashtags relevant to the song I’m playing along to (2-3 specific, 2-3 general).

However, each video has pretty much consistently capped out in those ranges. Was wondering if I am missing something in terms of growth? Am also wondering if the algorithm is getting tripped up since the tags vary depending on the music I’m playing…

Been on the platform for about a month, if that matters. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated, thanks!

Do you play to trending sounds or classic songs that you simply like?

Hey! Congrats on getting started, it sounds like you’re off to a good start!

My biggest piece of advice would be to create videos that people will either duet with or use the sound from.

Maybe post you playing a 4 bar drum loop and ask other musicians to duet it playing their instrument (guitarists, bassists, singers etc.). Collaboration is a great way to grow your following and make some good connections online.

And on the flip side of that, why not duet other people’s videos with you playing drums? Find a song someone uploaded and freestyle some drums on top. Also playing drums on top of some trending sounds.

It will take a lot of trial and error, but just try loads of different videos and eventually you’ll see which ones are most popular.

    Best of luck!
