Okay so one of our websites wanted a migration from HTTP to HTTPs.

I think we screwed up somewhere in our implementation.

    The original domain was http://www

When moving to HTTPs we then had https://www

    Now it’s just https://mydomain

So the redirect chain looks like:

    http://www

    301 moved permanently to https://www

    301 moved permanently to https://mydomain

So, almost all of our backlinks links were pointing to the http://www and now that we have it on a non www, does that make us lose our links? Should I have just skipped the third step and just gone from http://ww to https://www?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

It would have been one less redirect to just go to [https://www](https://www). Not sure why you decided to drop the WWW.

However, if the 301’s are implemented correctly you should be fine.

Just update the 301 to the non www – the guy that actually invented www. Recently said it’s the stupidest thing he ever did – www is just a sub domain of the URL. It’s not needed.

As for links, adding extra hops to your site when it’s not necessary is not a good idea, update the redirects from http://www to https:// and you’ll be fine.
