  • Struggling to understand these error codes in PageSpeed Insights

Hey guys (Digital Marketer here, not a developer) a site that my web dev. agency developed is looking into getting me to do some SEO for them.

First steps: improving core web vitals score.

When I try to check the site out in the page speed insights tool here are the errors I am getting:

Lighthouse returned error: FAILED_DOCUMENT_REQUEST. Lighthouse was unable to reliably load the page you requested. Make sure you are testing the correct URL and that the server is properly responding to all requests. (Details: net::ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED)

BUT when I first ran the site through it showed this error:

Lighthouse returned error: NOT_HTML. The page provided is not HTML (served as MIME type )

    The is in WordPress.

    What gives?

I tried googling for a possible solution but all the responses are either not applicable to this site or go WAY over my head as I am not a dev.

At least someone knows. Sounds like that “Agency” is from the old school WordPress camp. I don’t even have to re-read to know that there is a huge amount of issues with Page speed. If they are “optimizing” these sites by throwing this number of plugins at the website, look out, because any code they added is going to be rough.

OMG I just noticed this one too: WPBakery Page Builder I can only imagine how many divs are on that page. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for cutting out time on the dev cycle for WP, but this is… wow.

Good Luck OP. Google Page speed is sometimes pretty hard to diagnose with so many extra hooks and tie-ins in operation.

Quick question, where geographically is the site hosted and where are you running the test from? I had a previous site that had a similar error. Due to some previous spam, non USA traffic was being blocked. Google has some pagespeed servers outside the USA and in that situation the pagespeed request were being blocked.

This might not be relevant to your situation but just in case.
