  • Starting a Travel Blog Near New York: Seeking Advice for a Unique Approach

    Hey everyone,

I’m a 30-year-old guy living about 90 minutes away from New York City, and I’ve got a travel dream that I’d love your input on. After starting my own business a few years ago, my travel aspirations took a back seat, but I’m now feeling the urge to kickstart this adventure before starting a family. My goal is to make international friends, enhance my travel experiences, and, if possible, generate some income along the way.

Rather than focusing on my own travels, I’d like to create a reverse channel, helping foreigners discover exciting activities in my region. Here’s a bit about me:

    – I’m based in Orange County, New York, and I’m an active 30-year-old who hikes about 30 times a year with my dog (I can increase this).
    – I run an e-commerce business and collaborate with people from the Philippines and Japan.
    – I live near a popular outlet mall that attracts many foreign visitors.
    – I enjoy meeting new people and learning about their cultures.

I’m seeking guidance on how to start and grow this niche, especially in reaching a foreign audience, particularly in Asian countries. I plan to visit family in South Korea in autumn 2024 and would love to have a following there to connect with when I visit.

I’m not a social media expert but am eager to learn and open to outsourcing video editing. Do you have any tips, tools, or equipment suggestions for a beginner in travel influencing, especially for international engagement? Since I’ll be a one-man show, what’s the best way to record interviews with people? Any advice on using a stand, for instance?

Here are some initial thoughts I have:

    1. Visit the popular outlet mall near me and interview foreigners about their favorite New York experiences while providing helpful tips for the rest of their trip.
    2. Explore different locations near me and showcase why they’re worth a visit for anyone coming to New York.
    3. Go on various hikes and trails to introduce people to great outdoor spots and possibly offer travelers the chance to join me on small day hikes.

Your insights and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
