    Spam Form Submissions From PMax?

Posted by JustJenna02 on September 12, 2023 at 2:18 pm

I am running a Performance Max campaign for a client. We are only running this campaign to a remarketing audience (despite several extensive recommendations from me to expand our audience signal), and are seeing a lot of spam form submissions.

I assume a big reason for this is we have exhausted our remarketing audience and Google is trying to just serve the ads to “similar” users who will convert.

***Has anyone else experienced this and is there anything you have found works to help avoid the spam submissions?***

Here is what I have recommended to the client:

    * We should build out a separate remarketing display campaign.
    * We should add keyword targeting and interests/detailed demographics to the performance max campaign.
    * We should build search campaigns to bring more traffic to the site to remarket to.

Add more specific fields to your form including answer options that don’t trigger your conversion tag.

So, good news, you’re not running the campaign to a Remarketing audience. It’s just a good signal. It’s not audience targeting.

The reason you’re seeing the spam leads is because the algorithm is learning from incorrect data. You should be optimizing towards an “offline conversion” (a later-stage lead – a qualified lead, or even a paying customer).

You’ll still see spam leads on any channel until you fix this.
