  • Social Media Posting on Mobile vs Desktop

I recently started uploading content to Facebook and Instagram from my PC and noticed a significant drop in engagement. The only difference I can think of is the inability to select specific topics for each post as I could on the mobile apps. Could this decrease in engagement be related to the algorithm favoring content uploaded from mobile apps over content uploaded from the platforms’ websites?

Interesting observation, it’s possible the algorithm plays a role, but remember to also consider other factors like captions, visuals, and posting times.

There are definitely more “features” to use via the app like adding music to photos or meta tags to content and maybe that could influence the engagement… I havent heard of the algorithm doing this specifically though. Every algorithm change/preference should have a goal behind it, i.e. when they introduced reels that pushed reel content hard, so what would be the goal of encouraging publishing through the app? Maybe to hopefully get you scrolling?

I dont try to chase the algorithm though, good content is good content and will reflect as such. I get burnt out trying to outthink a machine and the coders behind it.

You could run an experiment and publish the same exact post a week or so apart, one from mobile and one from desktop. Of course there are other factors that might influence the results but if you repeated the experiment enough you might be able to find a baseline of results.
