I’m having a tough time getting user engagement for a charitable event we have organized next week. Our marketing budget is basically non-existent. Would anyone be willing to help us promote/advertise over social media? Proceeds will benefit a small nonprofit arts council.

Same. To the point that a non marketing colleague was making fairly snotty remarks in a team meeting about how I couldn’t do my job. Have you made it a Facebook event? That seemed to reach a few more people than an organic post. We’re going to do live stories of the decorating too.

The problem here is that you are using a Facebook page. Facebook pages don’t get organic reach and no one checks them for updates really.

Use Facebook Marketplace instead or websites that have more local visibility. Advertise your event on a site like Eventbrite. Some others can chime on other sites where you can make free listings. Just google something like “list my local event for free.”

The other thing you should do immediately is go to the blogs of all of the people who might become potential donors such as local businesses near your event location or nonprofit headquarters. Send the a personal invite to your event or tell them to share your event on social media.

If you have any existing donors on your list, put together an email marketing campaign now and send them follow up messages counting down to the fundraiser event.

Don’t beg them because they will think it’s a scam. If the person isn’t interested move on to the next business. You only have a few days to pull this off and no budget which is why I’m recommending the personal outreach.

Next time start promoting the event at least one month prior, build a social media audience with social advertising. Then you can run a fundraising sweepstakes online or a raffle at the event itself in the future to drive more donations.

Hope this helps and good luck

text messages, linkedin 1st degree outreach, tag people, instagram DM’s, and emailing. facebook event page (invite your friends)

you should focus 100% on connecting with people, tagging people, and creating as much potential noise as possible.

Have you emailed or even made direct (phone or in person visit to a business, etc) contact with your donors and other stakeholders yet? Most charity events are attended by folks with a tie to the org, rather than the random public.
