Should new e-com business with little money not run brand awareness campaigns?

I was told that brand awareness/engagement campaigns were needed to help feed your pixel and get social proof, but after coming across a popular Tik Tok video, the person was saying this logic is a myth and that businesses like mine should only focus on sales conversion campaigns. What’s your take take? I don’t know anything about ads and also not even sure if I can afford ads, as I can’t lose money on acquiring customers due to lack of money and my product not really having repeat purchases (jewelry).

Brand awareness/engagement campaigns are a waste of money for new businesses. You need to focus on getting sales. Depending on what you sell, Google shopping ads would likely be a better advertising channel as the ad product was built for ecom company’s to get sales in a short period of time.

Launching on paid social… FB or TikTok…can be a waste of money for a new brand as you won’t be able to give those social platforms enough data to know what to do. If you can not afford to lose money when running ads… then you should not even be running ads. Making your ads profitable happens over time as you need to test and learn what works for your business. Instead, look at doing SEO, PR, influencer marketing and other channels that are low cost, high time and can drive sales. You will just have to put in more hours vs time.
