  • Should I write Alt Text in detail if the image is full of text?

Posted by yasahisqueazy on December 15, 2022 at 9:40 am

I uploaded an image that highlighted why Alt Text is important and for the first image, there was a guy there and some text so I wrote alt text myself explaining the guy and what text is about. As for the second image, there were only bullet points explaining why alt text is important so I wrote that in the alt text along with explaining what the image is about.

Someone commented on the post saying people would find the post deceitful because my alt text does not include the text in the image.

So this makes me question whether every bit of content in the image is supposed to be added in the alt text or I’m doing something wrong? Thanks.

Alt text should be distinct and descriptive, but not an essay nor full of keywords. Remember, its purpose is to aid in the lack of a visual.

Yes. Screen readers can’t read text if they’re in an image. You need to put all of it in alt text so the visually impaired understand the image.
