  • Should I let a content aggregator use my content?

Posted by seohelper on June 2, 2021 at 11:26 am

I have a football/ soccer brand on YouTube (20k subs), TikTok (100k) and Insta (3k) and all of the content on my channels is shot by me and my team.

Every now and then I get approached by other channels who wish to use my content. These channels don’t shoot any of their own content, they just take it from other content creators and repackage it with a graphic and sometimes a link to the content’s creator.

I have been approached by one of these channels. They have a huge audience across all the big platforms, with audiences of 1-5m on each.

Personally, I detest these channels. I think they’re lazy. They rely on people like myself who work 12 hour days, and come up with original ideas, and they make money off of it.

Still, if sharing my content with them can increase my audience, then it is worth it. The latest one to approach me refuses to give any numbers out regarding potential click through rates, so I have no idea if it’s going to be worth it.

Has anyone here got any experience of this? Any advice on whether it’s worth letting them use my videos?

    No.

Channels like this are like those influencers who argue that the exposure they provide you is going to benefit you in the long term, yet run a mile when you suggest working on a revenue-share deal instead. They want free content that they can monetise and, if you don’t make anything off the back of it, that’s not their problem. There’s a reason they aren’t giving you any click-through-rate data.

Tell them to get fucked, brand your own content in case they decide to steal it anyway, and build your own audience.
