to anyone who sees this i want to make a career/business but just can’t seem to get things rolling. Like I’m studying so i can get into the SEO digital marketing field but it feels such a hassle and bother to come back from my full time job and sit down and study it. I don’t have my laptop so i have to wait to get another. I know i need to get my ass in the field. Also my passion is drawing cars but i realized that doesn’t pay bills so that’s why i started doing SEO. I try to balance SEO and drawing so i won’t feel guilty for wasting time. I feel it’s wasting time because there is no direct business i can make out of drawing cars. This is one reason i find it hard to sit and study digital marketing which i’m being honest i just got into to make money.

Everyone is telling me i need to make money as a man or i’m worthless. I’m trying to get ahead and do something especially without a car right now. I feel making money is a need and i have to build skill in the market

Sounds like you’re doing all of this for the wrong reasons.

Anyone telling your intrinsic value as a human being (regardless of your sex or gender) is tied to your income is terrible person.

It’s one thing to take a job to make money to pay the bills, it’s another thing to throw yourself at a career to only make money. But…what if you learned a new set of skills in website management and SEO that also helped you cater to your real dream: drawing cars?

One of the best ways to learn website management, design, and SEO is to have a website about your hobby. Therefore, build a website about the pictures of cars your draw. Perhaps sell them. As you build the website you’ll learn what you need to do to improve the website experience and SEO. Not only will your drawing capabilities feed into the design aspects, you’re learning tangible skills that can be taken to a company. That website is now your business card as someone who can manage a website, work on SEO, and draw cool shit.

If your heart isn’t in it keep looking! Don’t just settle on something that you think will earn! I started 3 different degrees (including Design, Electronic Engineering, and just straight up IT) before I found my passion, and then got a second degree in a related industry. I’m also a fellow artist so I appreciate your thoughts, no real options there, but I can use my design skills in my current field.

Engaging in activities or work you don’t enjoy will eventually lead to burnout, that’s a fact. The outcome achieved becomes irrelevant. Instead, seek out a pursuit closely aligned with your interests and hone your fundamental skills. With increased experience comes enhanced work quality, subsequently boosting your odds of attracting clients.
Value your time and refrain from investing it in endeavors you don’t find appealing.

What do you mean no business you can make by drawing cars? Sure you can. Shoot if you can draw cars you can probably draw cool car logos etc; you can probably target every car or auto shop in America or even the world, there are like hundreds of thousands probably, and sell them a new logo. Anyway just an example! Drawing cars is definitely not a worthless or useless skill. It’s kind of like saying “writing stories” is useless, but in reality writing stories is hugely beneficial to even SEO, if you can write content…

So yeah, don’t feel bad and don’t listen to what society thinks is “normal”. You are valuable

I don’t like SEO personally, it is a ‘fun little metric game’ in some ways, but I use it as a means to an end.

Have you thought about maybe going into graphic design? It really sounds like SEO isn’t particularly interesting or fulfilling for you.

It’s a solid field to go into and everything, but it’s not so outstanding in terms of compensation, or work-life balance, or any other measure, that it would be worth pursuing over other career options if you’re just not that into it.

If you do want to do something related to digital marketing though — which can be a smart move, you can build a great career in this industry — you’d probably be happier pursuing graphic design, art direction, visual branding, and other aspects that fall more on the creative side of marketing.

You could potentially break into the field by picking up some freelance graphic design work and building a portfolio. The market for marketing (lol) is in a bit of a downturn right now, but honestly, people always need basic stuff like logos and other assets.

I totally get where you’re coming from. Balancing a full-time job, studying, and pursuing your passion can be overwhelming. Remember, it’s not about rushing, but finding a sustainable pace. Since you’re into SEO for the income, try breaking down your study sessions into smaller, focused blocks. As for your passion for drawing cars, consider keeping it as a side outlet for now. Once your digital marketing skills pay off, you might have more flexibility to explore your artistic side. And about the pressure from others, remember, your worth isn’t defined solely by money. You’re working on your future, and that’s commendable. Keep at it and stay focused on your goals.
