    Hey all.
I have a Hawaii themed wordpress website. Travel and hiking guides is the main niche. Looking at it as a potential affiliate site in the near future but not monetizing it right now. Would like to obviously, that is my goal.
Domain is aged and owned since 2016 but I have only started putting posts on in March. Worked on reading up a lot on SEO and have created roughly 400 pages/posts of content to the tune of 300k words. I am not experienced in SEO, I have dabbled like 10 years ago but my primary role is a marketing diretor by trade, so I can talk to talk but now try to learn the actual trade. The last month I have really ramped it up by trying to learn what I can but wow, it’s so much different than it used to be.
I am starting to see some impressions and clicks but many, if not most, of the high ranking searches seem out of my grasp. Seeing roughly 20 clicks a month and approx. 300 impressions a day. Most of those impressions are like, middling rankings (20ish on searchs like “hawaii in January” or ranking higher on specic searchs like “kukuku foot court”
My question to those much more skilled at this:
Should I just start researching low hanging fruit keywords and attempt to rank those rather than, oh I dunno “diamond head hike” (for example) – or should I just keep trying to create relevant pages for the common themes and just keep adding words to the site? I can dedicate several hours a night after my child goes to sleep and I am done with my day job, so I am trying to look into how to maximize my strategy, admitting to the fact I am pretty noobish with this. Not looking for major trade secrets, just anything you’d be willing to share.
    Thanks for any wisdom provided.

We generally start with low, medium, and hard keywords. The low ones build confidence in the client (and get you SOME traffic) and the other ones take longer.

    Depending on budget, of course.

There’s no reason to have to choose low, medium, OR hard. The only reason would be if you have limited amount of time to do stuff. But honestly, if you have to pick, start with the lower competition keywords. When you see a ranking increase for them, you will build confidence. It’s better than being like… “well… it’s been 6 months and we see no movement yet” because you’re only doing the hard ones.

    Bravo ???????? ????????

That’s dedication, 300,000 words in ~6 months. I’m in awe at that level of production, did you do that alone?

Are you using GSC (Google Search Console)? If yes then check there pages section for indexing status. You can get many things from there. If you can share your website then we can let you know more details. Thanks

Publishing articles without doing a proper keyword research takes you no where. We should provide with readers or visitors valuable content. So, Google analytics will do the job for you by giving better ranking.

I’d like to suggest you to go for better keyword research first. Then move to content/ article creation. Ahrefs is the best tool for this with high accuracy.

First, focus on increasing traffic to the website. Then you will find several methods to monetize it.
