Seo Interview Rant
Recently got rejected in an interview after clearing all three rounds with the marketing manager.
The question?
– How will you bulk email for guest posting? (increased outreach and decreased time period investment). I tried my best to answer it with some hypothesis but the person wanted an clear explanation or a walk through of the process.
Would request fellow mates to help me learn this failure of SEO interview so that next time i can actually implement it with certain understanding.

Honestly that sounds like a shit job if that is their interview question.
Here’s what I’d do for reference:
Use SEMrush or something similar which generates lists based on industry backlinks, export bulk into excel.
Use an AI to summarize what the site has and why my service could provide a useful guest post (probably BING and generate letters to each site which id store in a large excel file)
Send the files out with a service like mailchimp or campaign monitor which lets you load things programmatically. I’d set up a lead system so that I’m notified of responses. I might even use drip emails. My guess is that the response rate would decrease but whatever.There are also that locate bloggers on Twitter etc. when combined with social mention following, you can quickly respond, start a conversation and see if they’d let you write a guest post.
I’d also reach out on HARO (I think that’s what its called) for reporters and also PR releases calibrated for maximum effect.
There’s a lot of other things but I think this is probably what the guy is looking for. Again, seems like a shit job so you’re probably lucky you didn’t get it.

I think you dodged a bullet. I wouldn’t want a position where I’m expected to do outreach for anything.

Use software to automatically send emails to sites that you’ve scanned.

I would leverage the resources devoted to bulk email for guest posting into something that is actually productive instead. Then I would give examples.

Next time tell her that you will not do such a thing because of the low ROI such an activity has in the grand scheme of things. I would than have challenged them to prove that actually worked! Don’t be afraid to stick up for yourself, and call out bullshit when you see it. Alot of people interviewing for these SEO positions are micromanagers that don’t know any better but to go down a checklist and calling it a day.

What a stupid fucking question.
I’d say “I wouldn’t, everyone in the email marketing industry knows that open rates are abysmally low, and the chances of conversion are even lower. Guest posting, and the larger effort of link building in this industry has been successful when professionals try to solve problems or build genuine, intentional partnerships”.
Even DoFollow, one of the largest link building agencies out there, shared their methodology in an Authority Hackers podcast. They said that their agents do cold outreach on LinkedIn, with well researched individuals inside organizations who stand to benefit from collaboration. They said that they will even use agents who speak the same language as the prospect in order to build better rapport.
Not to mention, that most inbox quarantines will prevent any promotional email from even reaching an inbox, resulting in thousands of dollars of wasted spend, depending on how the email solution is configured.

I’d walk away if they told me we’re doing cold outreach link building anyway. It’s not the best use of an SEO’s time you were saved by being rejected.

I would just pay for backlinks, don’t waste your time outreaching for backlinks because a) the process was time consuming and b) the response rate was low and c) hard to measure the success of backlinks

Authority Hackers had a superb podcast/interview session explaining about this subject (bulk guest post outreach) for almost an hour. Like how to avoid spam detection and how to grab attention and writing techniques and how to scrap emails etc
