I have a ecommerce store i run myself. I know absolutely nothing about SEO or what it takes to rank higher on Google for my products. I’m in a industry were I cant just pay for Google ads or FB/IG Advertising so I have to rely more on organic traffic and advertising on some niche specific forums

I was going to higher someone to work on my seo on Upwork but then I read all the bad reviews on that and I wouldn’t know how to vette someone on there anyway to know wether or not they are blowing smoke

So my only other option is to try and teach myself. Can anyone point me towards some videos or articles/books(preferably videos as I’m a better visual learner) that can give me the basics of seo and how to improve it on my site

Any and all tips appreciated and don’t worry about offending me as I have thick skin and realize I’m completely illiterate on this topic

    Thanks

For organic traffic probably first thing you should know is keywords. You gotta look up to ” long-tail – short-tail keywords”. Matching your content and headers to your keywords are really important for organic. Also you can look to Neil Patel’s SEO videos on youtube. Good luck mate, if you need more help, we are here 🙂

I’ve got 10 years of SEO under my belt. I currently co-own a digital marketing agency but I am leaving it to go the contractor route. I have worked on dozens of e-commerce websites during the last decade, 2 of them being in the firearms industry. If you would like, I’ll give you 1 hour of my time for some consultation, absolutely free. I normally charge $35/hour strictly for consultation and $75 per hour to do the work. I offer the free hour of consultation because 1. It helps me to network, 2. It helps you get a primer on how to do SEO, and 3. If what I tell you helps you do better, you’re more likely to come back to me for help. You doing better=more revenue for you. More revenue for you=growth. Growth=you getting more busy. You getting more busy=less time you can spend doing your own marketing. Lest time doing your marketing=the need to hire somebody to do it. Need to hire somebody=you remember that dude who helped you out. The dude who helped you out=me. Me=your possible SEO strategist. See how that works?

SEO is a set of technical requirements you need to meet get index by search engines. Google has the best documentation for learning about his, and the search console is really the only tool you need to see how well you are doing.

All the rest of the “SEO” stuff is really marketing.

If you are on WordPress, I like the SEO Press plugin. No nonsense, easy to understand guide to optimizing your content to get indexed. The pro version is a good value and gives some additional tools to keep you index as you market and remarket your site.

For marketing, I like the Brand Story approach. Once you have the brand story, the rest falls into place and will not be misled by SEO hucksters.

Research on how to best perform User-generated Search for eCommerce.

Your focus (with SEO) is to optimize your website to rank for transactional keywords for your eCommerce store in your niche.

First place to start is getting your site fast enough. Get a CDN with stackpath. Check your site with Google Insights and GTMetrix.com and then find on page optimisation tools. After that focus on blogs to get your content up. I run Seo for global companies and my number 1 starting point has always to been to have solid foundations. This is for everything.

    1. Seo audit
    2. Find errors & fix
    3. Check website loading time/mobile score
    4. Check the spam score
    5. On-page SEO
    6. Technical Seo audit
    7. Index website & update sitemap
    8. Do off-page SEO & start social media marketing
    9. Check competitors links and post
    10. Create quality backlinks & always focus on content/blogging/guest post

Note – it’s not easy to generate sales on an e-commerce website so do work hard.

    Best of luck…
