Sending traffic to different domain – anyone have experience?

Posted by sevenfo7d on October 24, 2022 at 5:57 pm

We’re exploring directing PPC ads to Target.com in order to try boost our product sales on their site.

First off, is this possible through text and shopping ads?

Another big issue is the fact that we’d have no data collection, so we won’t know what’s working..

Does anyone have experience doing something similar?

Not ideal, but hitting Target targets will get us extra store/product coverage.

You can do this with search ads and even paid social. You can not do it with shopping ads since you don’t own the domain name. We have tried this with a couple CPG brands and the lack of data and the delay in any store data you get makes doing this very hard to track performance or know what is and is not working.

Just send traffic to the product landing page with search ads. The metrics you look at will be the differences in sales, definitely not ideal but if you want to run ads just do it.

If you wanted you could design a separate landing page for people to arrive at and buy the product and you could manually add the orders if that’s a possibility

This is shoveling money into the fireplace without conversation metrics.

If you absolutely needed to drive sales on Target, at the very least sign up for their affiliate program (or a third party) so you can at least directionally track if you’re driving any sales. (Data will lag 48 hours usually).

But your dollars are better spent elsewhere aka on a Shopify store or on Amazon via Amazon ads where you can track and optimize based on conversion.
