Search lost IS (budget) – underspending

Posted by Embarrassed_Device67 on May 24, 2024 at 7:07 pm

I've been running a manual CPC campaign.

The daily cap for spend is $600 per day, but google doesnt even come close (It maybe hits $40 of spend a day IF that).
Top of page bid for my keyword is $5. My max CPC is $10, and google will consistently (up to the approx $40 of daily spend) find me clicks in the $8-$9 range.
What I dont understand here is I am seeing a limited budget warning, and my Search Lost IS (budget) is over 65%. I can't for the life of me fathom why I'm losing bids due to budget when I'm way over the top of page bid, and am not even hitting my daily spend limits?
Anything obvious I might be missing here?

What’s your bid strategy? It’s odd that you’re spending so low even though your max CPC is so high. Do you have any negative kws that might be contesting the campaign itself ? Sometimes this is the case

Top of page bid is an estimate, it’s not precise. If you’re only winning auctions at $8/9 and often not serving, you probably need to bump your max cpc bid cap up.

You could also look and see if you accidentally set some negative bid adjustments to an audience, device, or time of day that could be impacting things.

This is one where unfortunately the Google “increase your bids” probably solves it even though it doesn’t make sense from the metrics they are giving you.

What is is lost to rank ? That stat tells you to raise your budget. Rank will understand if you’re being competitive.

Check if there’s another campaign limiting your spend or ad group level caps.
