So the way I see it reddit is kind of a big deal millions of users, topics on more or less anything you can think of and 9 times out of ten when you google something Reddit posts will show up in the search results

So why is it that when content creators, marketers, gurus etc talk about digital platforms they always bring up Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, YouTube etc but Reddit barely gets a mention?

It’s almost like it’s a dirty secret in the digital world.

Reddit folks are generally abrasive toward any brand advertising on the platform. And the reality is that companies get better results on other social platforms. They’re going to invest where they get the best results, and Reddit isn’t the place for that.

It’s not a dirty secret at all…many brands and creators understand the value of Reddit. There are many, many ways to market on Reddit and a lot of it is “unspoken” or “unreported” because it’s very frowned upon with the community here….and if you’re caught gaming Reddit, or even trying to subtly advertise here – there’s a very high likelihood your brand will face some level of toxicity, backlash, or negative sentiment.

Also, nobody subs to brand pages here…so there’s no point in launching a brand specific Reddit unless there’s truly an organic community. There’s literally a community called HailCorporate that will hunt down and call out marketing posts.

Someone posted a picture of their burger and fries from a random eatery in Vietnam and the comment section was filled with “shill” and “marketing” comments…also, there’s multiple legitimate domains that are permanently auto-flagged as “spam”…no one wants to kick the wasp nest that is Reddit.

It’s true, reddit has a *lot* of users and is in the top 10 visited websites in the US. It’s also the only website in the top 10 that isn’t raking in billions.

There’s just no money here. The ability to leverage the platform to do… anything… isn’t there. (technically it is but those methods are not obvious and may be against site rules).

cuz despite the efforts of the mobile app and “fresh” redesign, most of the best content here is text-based.

and the reddit culture is such that even though you could make your avatar into whatever you wanted, people generally prefer a custom snoo.

text and not putting your face in front of everything is what keeps it relatively low-key compared to the tiktoks and IGs of the world.

Reddit is the meta of conventional advertising. Focusing on community. You would target reddit for certain community manager things but most firms or organizations don’t consider community management and marketing similar

I’d say it’s because folks on reddit are engaged and are in a mindset that goes after research, not casual browsing. If you’re on reddit, there’s a reason you are and your mindset is focused on what you’re searching for.

On Facebook, it’s more casual and mind-numbing so you’re more open to check out whatever.

It feels that platforms that allow nsfw and sexual content are looked down upon and unprofessional.

This is especially true for anyone trying to google opinions, advice, and recommendations without having to weed out articles that are blatantly affiliate links rather than a true “top 10 ranked” list.

Maybe it’s because people like to stay anonymous here. On Instagram, Youtube or Facebook, you need to show up. Or put some kinda content to get going

But on Reddit, it’s more like connecting with people, sharing your perspective, listening to others’ points of view, asking questions, etc without revealing your identity

It’s like that friend with whom we can share everything without thinking twice bcoz we know nobody gonna know except that person
