  • [Question] What would you like to know about digital PR and outreach for link building?

    Hi r/SEO!

Long-time lurker and a big shoutout to all the information I’ve gleaned from this sub. I’m working on creating some content about the outreach process in link building, but what I realized is that I do this every day, so I’m not quite sure what others **DON’T** know about it.

I work for a creative agency I love on the content marketing team, specializing in digital promotion (digital PR). If you could ask anything about my role, what would it be?

I realize the best way to create content about this is to, you know, ask. So hit me with any questions that come to mind! As a quick edit — I want to add that I’ve asked some of the project managers in my agency what they’d like to know most about my role and they mentioned they didn’t really know what to ask.

    Thanks in advance (:

Very nooby question: I’m trying to build backlinks to a website for a local business how do I go about finding blogs that will accept my guest posts?

How do you do outreach? Emails? cold calls? Some other way no one has heard about?

Do you have scripts or templates you use that you can share that work?

Can you simply ask for a back link if they mention you but don’t provide one or is that rude?

What do you offer them in return? Have you come across a link exchange deal as well?

What do you do when you’ve written great content, but it doesn’t generate any back links or social shares?

Hi! How do you go about finding stories that editors love? I understand that you identify editors with Google News, what type of stories do you pitch them?

Do you look at a specific editor and craft your story for them, (editor-centric) or do you find a specific story and craft a new story for those who’ve written about that? (story-centric)?

    Thank you for sharing!

Another question I came to think about:

Say that you pitch a content piece that gets perhaps 10 good newspaper backlinks. What’s the actual impact on organic traffic for the site as a whole in your experience?

Intuitively to me, getting a bunch of backlinks to a piece that goes viral shouldn’t be a quality indicator for the rest of the site in Google’s eyes, and should have minimal effect compared to getting links to the specific pages you want to rank for. This is the biggest concern I have about PR for backlinks.
