Problem with conversion tracking | Google Ads / Analytics

Posted by Crashcok on April 22, 2024 at 12:16 pm

Hope someone can help me!! Two weeks ago, we launched several display and demand generation campaigns for which we are using imported conversions from Google Universal Analytics 360 (active until july). Sadly, we are yetunable to use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) in Google Ads for this account.

The conversions we use are goals from Google Universal Analytics that track events previously set up with Google Tag Manager. These goals have been established for years and have consistently performed well without issues.

However, we are now facing a problem: although we can see the completion of events/goals on the Google Analytics dashboards with the correct source/medium (google / cpc | google / display), etc.

these goals are not being recorded or attributed to Google Ads as converions, despite the account being linked correctly, etc Why might be the issue here? How is it possible that I see the conversions in Google Analytics but they do not appear in the Google Ads reports?

    Thank you so much!!

Normal UA has stopped tracking data in all accounts and will get permanently deleted in July. Google has basically stopped maintaining UA in all forms.

It would not shock me if the bridge between UA 360 and Google Ads no longer works because it was piggybacking on the same code that traditional UA did to bring the conversion over and Google has stopped maintaining that. UA 360 was originally supposed to be sunset a year ago before they punched it out due to company delays, but I can’t imagine they have anyone really maintaining it at this point.

You’d have to ask your rep or 360 contact to investigate on their side, but that would be my first guess.

FWIW this is one reason why it’s strongly recommended to not import conversions, especially in an enterprise account. It adds a second layer of failure (Google Analytics capturing and sending the data) before hitting the Ads properties. If the tracking is working like it should in GTM it really shouldn’t be difficult to switch it over to a Google conversion tag and have it back up and running in the ads account.
