Please help me figure out the hashtag business
Hey folks, my sister is a photographer with her own business in Dubai. I am helping her social media presence grow, especially on Instagram and for the life of me I am unable to figure out the hashtag game. We are receiving a decent response from our followers but the engagement from hashtag is not upto the mark.
I was hoping if any of you could provide an insight. I have tried everything from the most popular hashtags to the shuffling them randomly.

This question comes up a lot. The truth is that platforms have evolved past reliance on hashtags since in their infancy they were easy to game/manipulate. They don’t matter nearly as much as people think they still do.
The reason people liked hashtags is because they provided organic reach. Right now, that growth opp on IG is through Reels.

Forget about global hashtags, they actually only worsen your organic promotion. Instead, focus on niche, local hashtags based on the interests of your audience. Talking about the hashtag strategy, you can use 800-2M popular ones (5-4 hashtags), 300-700K medium ones (3-4) and 10-100K smaller ones (3-4). The idea behind this is that it’s easier to rank in smaller ones, so as you rank higher in smaller ones, your content will start getting the push, and it will start ranking higher in other hashtags as well.
