    What’s your daily budget

For shopping campaigns, I usually stick with maximize conversion value with a tROAS. I usually get decent results after a week or 2 depending on daily spend and how many conversions come through.

Can you answer a few questions about your situation?

Were you running standard shopping before? And what kind of results were you seeing?

Can you confirm if all of your best selling products are approved in the GMC?

What is the general price of your products?

Hey Olga, there are so many factors that could be affecting performance, that it’s difficult to advise from your question alone.

It’s always best to hit or exceed your target ROAS before scaling your budget, so you need to make sure everything is as optimised as possible at your current spend. Here are a few things that can affect performance:

    1) Conversion tracking setup – is it working and optimised for privacy regulations
    2) Shopping feed quality (optimised titles, no. of attributes, GTINs etc.)
    3) Pricing and competition- are you competitive in the shopping carousel?
    4) Does your product convey your position in the market e.g. affordable or luxury?
    5) Are your website and landing pages well optimised?
    6) Are your assets and audience signals setup well
    7) Do you have sufficient account data over the right period to get consistent results?

If you want a solid answer to your question I’m happy to take a quick look at your account and let you know my thoughts. That’s the only way anyone can really help you without just guessing what your situation is. FYI I’ve been doing this for 9 years.

If interested PM me and I’ll try to help.

Max conversion value and remove the tROAS. Raise budget and let it scale then find out a better goal.

That said, paid ads aren’t the end all be all. Your feed and website could suck. Your conversion actions messed up. Bad asset groups etc.

if you’re only getting 1 conversion every 2 – 3 days, it’s not going to be enough data for Google to optimise to with smart bidding. If you’re able to up your budget, you may get more and be able to drive the learning. With a tROAS strategy you really need maximum data.

Have you tried checking the tagging, optimising your feed and ensuring your assets are not considered “low”? You also want to consider placement negatives as well after checking through some of the placements – at low budgets these can really eat up a LOT of the activity and not drive conversion as they’re so upper funnel.

Is tour website optimised, and have you put negative URLs from your site into Pmax for non- converting areas if you’re primarily focussing on the shopping part? Are you also set up to pull in more URLs in your campaign settings?

Possible considerations if you’re GA4 set up too, pulling in the GA4 data into your conversion action will bring it the full DDA model, including organic which a Google conversion tag just can’t do (they only DDA the Google account, unless you’re set up on SA360 and also pull in Social into a floodlight). With more data, it may push you over an area where Google will be able to optimise in its smart bidding engine.

Okay, if the $99 product is a little on the more expensive side for your industry, the conversion time may take several days for people to search, click and then purchase it.

For all of the products in this campaign, how many conversions do they get in 30 days? It should be about 30+ conversions for smart bidding to work properly.

Time is probably the biggest factor, waiting at least 1-2 weeks for the campaign to learn and optimize will give you a better idea of what is going wrong
