Optimizing search ads with no trackable conversions

Posted by Ordinary-Only on July 3, 2023 at 10:00 am

    Hi r/ppc,

Hoping for some advice. I ran a search ad for my Shopify store with test products for a few weeks ($30 a day budget), with UA at the start, and collected some “conversion” data during that time. Unfortunately for my ads, the actual sales leads I received during the campaign were all in the form of phone calls, as my products are very expensive and people do want to call in and speak before buying.

    My questions now are:

    1. Should I follow Google’s current recommendation to switch to max conversions, (sales signals are apparently up with certain devices and at certain times of day) given that these calls are untrackable as conversions because none of them were from the “click to call” button?
    2. if not, how am I supposed to optimize my campaign to account for these calls if they’re not trackable? a manual input of some type?
    3. how long is it recommended to do a “dry run” to gauge customer interest?

    Appreciate any suggestions.
