    Optimizing ads w/ agent

Posted by cactusplants on October 20, 2023 at 1:39 pm

    Hi,

I have an ad that’s been running since June 2022. It has performed quite well, though I was wondering if it’s worth trying to find a company that can optimize it to have it perofrm better or update certain metrics etc.

I had it set up by a small ad company, so I could go back to them potentiall to see if they can make it any better. How often should the ads be “managed” tinkered? Something tells me more often than I’ve left it. I feel that I’ve gotten a good sample size of data that could perhaps be honed to create more conversions.

I’ve been told and iirc have had bad experiences with listening to the people from Google. I remember using them a while ago and my conversions plummeted.

    Thanks!

Google Ads campaigns aren’t really to set and forget.

You ought to be testing ad copy, new keywords (and match types) … create new campaigns to optimize spending and budget allocations … scale what works … monitor your budgets and performance metrics …

There’s a ton you could do, but it all depends on what your goals are and how much you’re spending.

    So to your question:

    >How often should the ads be “managed” tinkered?

Ask yourself, how often do you want to identify new opportunities by analyzing performance, and trying out new tactics that get you closer to your revenue targets?

Google reps will push for changes that will get you to spend more money on their platform, regardless if it harms your account’s performance or not, so take their advice with a pinch of salt.

As far as how often should you tinker with the account, it really depends on the size of the account and the complexity of the business.

A good Google Ads management agency/freelancer should be able to yield you good results in around 30–90 days though, if they are good at their job.

As mentioned, marketing should not ever be set and forget. You should always be thinking of new ads, what do your customers want and need, what would make them click your ads which is the point of advertising. This can change over time. If you are stagnant, you risk falling behind competitors who are not, in fact, you will fall behind.

Not all agencies/freelancers are the same and have different ideas on doing things. You’ll need to ask questions to find the best fit for you. They have experience and can certainly help you improve your campaign, whether that happens or not with the one you choose is another matter.

Changes should not happen just for the sake of making a change. You need a statistically significant amount of data. One cannot fly off the handle just because an ad hasn’t had any clicks in 10 impressions. It’s clicks that count and ideally I want 20 clicks on each ad I’m A/B testing before deciding which is best but more is better. Nobody should be using time, as in run it for 3 weeks, but they all do, it’s something to watch out for when choosing a manager.
