What do you think the consultant is trying to do? In the beginning i explained the goals. Therefore expected them to suggest me keywords. But why do they ask me? Is it a normal practice? What you suggest i should do?

It seems like the person handling your SEO is concentrating on enhancing your website for specific sets of keywords, which could enhance your search engine ranking as a whole. This method empowers them to pinpoint relevant keywords with similar search intent and significance to your business objectives. Presenting key terms in sets aids the specialist in comprehending your preferences, desired readers, and field concentration more effectively. It also guarantees that the chosen words are in line with your goals and can bring the best outcomes for your site. Should you not have already, I advise engaging in a dialogue with your counselor to elucidate your expectations and comprehend their approach more effectively. You can additionally voice any doubts or queries you possess concerning the process. I like digital marketing and SEO, so I’m happy to offer more assistance with this project. Kindly advise if you wish to cooperate! .

Sounds like they have a lock-step approach to optimization. Some folks prefer it, especially on larger sites.

One thing to always keep in mind is that we’re specialists in SEO, you’re the specialist in your business/niche. Yes, some SEOs can become quite knowledgeable about the niches they work with, but we still pale in comparison to your niche knowledge.

If you want, you could just ask why 3 to 4 primary keywords/phrases at a time and ask for an explanation of their process. Candidly, this should have happened a while ago.

I’d honestly use that question as a place for your brand to go “Well, for the next 3 months we’re focusing on this product and driving sales to it, so let’s go for these keywords next or something similar!”

Your SEO should then double check the recommendations, as it’s not guaranteed your keyword is the right fit. Coloquial terms can be more searched for than the acrjal name of the product, for example. The SEO needs to dial in the intent/make sure there’s traffic behind those phrases that you can capture. Then ya know… They do the SEO thing and all it implies!

The consultant’s job should be knowing the keywords that your business should be targeting by doing keyword research and analysis.

Unless it’s to go through what keywords he will be implementing and why with the research to back it up, there should be no reason to do this.

It just makes his role basically useless if he keeps asking you..

I ask clients: What keywords do you *think* you should be ranking for? I even italicize *think* in the discovery questionnaire. I use think so it lets them know it’s just an idea and something up to change and debate.

I’ll get back to them with something like, “The keyword ‘Rottweilers’ has 90 000 monthly searches and the first page of Google is dominated by websites like [major global brands] – which will take years of SEO to overtake. Whereas the keyword ‘rottweiler puppies [city name]’ has 200 monthly searches and seems possibly achievable in 8-12 months. Other similar viable keywords are ….”

In short, 99% of clients really appreciate when I get back to then with keyword data – they don’t feel offended that I shot down their keywords.

They should be doing doing the keyword research. Looking at your main competitors to see what they are using. And then going into google ads and running it through the keyword tool to see search volume and competition.

Then they should pick some keywords to target based on volume of searches and competition.

If you’re providing keywords, then there really is an issue and I’d be worried.

There’s a lot of scammers out there as it doesn’t require formal qualifications.

I had an e-commerce business for 13 years and did my own SEO. I then learned to code websites. Other people started asking me to build their sites so I delved deeper into SEO.
