hi everyone! i need some help, my mother’s facebook account was hacked a year ago, and the person behind the hacked account is scamming people. a gentleman was recently scammed of $700 for a puppy. i’m not sure what all happened, but facebook hasn’t done ANYTHING to get rid of this hacked account, we’ve contacted them, emailed, reported everything on said account and nothing has happened.

I told my mother that she could take this to court, but i’m not sure what good that would do.

    Any advice?

please for the love of god stop messaging me and commenting that @… WILL HELP ME NO THEY WONT JFC.

edit: the man that got scammed of $700 is now threatening to take my mom to court. why is facebook not doing anything???

edit: so the hacker has my mom’s id (bc she was a wee bit slow but we lectured her about it), and i assume even if we get that fb down, the hacker will just take her id elsewhere and make a whole new account.. at this point i’m begging her to take this to the fbi and see if they can do anything at all. this situation doesn’t look too good.

Get your mom a new account and do 2FAC as well. Then get everyone you know to report the old profile as impersonating your mom.

    Hope that helps!

Just message everyone you know to block the old account then. If people are getting confused you can help them individually but this is so common in one way or another. We all probably know multiple people who have had accounts compromised and need to acknowledge them under a different name.

If you can change the name under the old account to something unrecognizable to people who may be susceptible to getting confused and scammed, do that, too. You can’t worry too much over one account and at a certain point other people need to be responsible for their own Internet safety.
