Moving Tags/Pixels into Google Tag Manager

Posted by MihailovNTN on February 21, 2023 at 3:09 pm

    Hi guys,

I just took over a website and they have all their tags ad pixels separately on the page source: one tag for GTM, one for Facebook and another for Analytics. For GA4 I installed it directly through GTM, but the other are still there. From what I know, many codes can cause the page loading speed to increase, it that true?

The point is, does it make sense to move them into GTM? Will this affect anything? And how should I do this?

    Thanks a lot!

All things equal, run everything you can through GTM. Lots of code on a site can slow it down but it is relative to how much code we are talking about.

Yes. Put all your tags in your tag manager.

Thanks for answers u/fathom53 u/HawkeyMan! Any ideas on how to move them without affecting data collection? Sorry if it’s a dumb question, but I already searched and couldn’t find anything

Google Tag Manager is a more efficient way to handle a number of tags. It does add overhead (work) to management though. For me, the cutoff is 3-4 tags before it makes sense for most sites.

Of course, GTM can be useful or necessary or other things like managing custom events.

As for loading speed, it doesn’t have that much impact unless you have a lot of tags.
