  • Long term career – SEO or climb corporate banking?

I know this may be a biased subreddit to post in but I’m someone who just graduated with a Master in Exercise Physiology. I didn’t enjoy it and am making a career change.

At the moment I’m tossing up between entry level SEO positions and banking positions. Is there a long term career in SEO? Could I pivot to digital marketing at some point if need be?

Or I take the safe route with banking, climb the corporate ladder.

I do have a vision of content creating on the side around fitness/lifestyle. That’s something I’d work towards whilst working full time in either industry above.

    Thanks for any advice

Start with SEO and push to learning/being able to do SMM, content creation, copywriting. Basically make yourself available as a whole package kind of deal, I did the same and it’s never a dull moment. Once I get bored of doing one thing I can completely switch it up and do something different to break it up.

Also had a few instances of “why are you paying them xxx when you could give me a x pay rise and I’d just do their job too?” so you can move up to bigger pay grades if you can show progress, results and your ability.

Do whichever you enjoy I guess.

That said, one way could be to do banking but using your fitness content creation on the side as a way to learn SEO.

That way, if banking isn’t for you you have something on your CV that helps with SEO.

If you aren’t already deep into SEO, then go for the banking job. SEO is truly a cesspit of deceit and headaches.

Some people can do it forever, but as time goes on I’m believing it’s not my forever job.

You might hate the banking job but you’ll get some money, experience and in the corporate world you might even get some connections too.

    Good luck.
