Location Pages Vs Duplicate Content
Hi Guys,
I just started a job at a rental listing company. They have 20k+ pages indexed on Google, however most of their traffic and sales is driven through paid search, which isn’t sustainable for them.
The Problem: Their parent pages Rent XYZ, don’t rank well for volume keywords, but their location pages which Rent XYZ in Location… Ranks well but has very little search volume in most cities.
Their top 1,000 pages contribute 52% of traffic, however their bottom 19k contributes 48% but fairly evenly.
My goal is to try to get them ranking on page 1 for the parent pages, but I suspect the bloat is holding them back. I’m also exploring link building strategies, but they are miles off their competitors on page one. They have about 50k backlinks but the top 2 have 2.4m and 550k respectively.
I’m wondering if sacrificing the 48% that have low volume, but add up, will help boost our rankings and hopefully we will recover some lost traffic? Or should I just focus on link building efforts.
