  • Is there a difference in the content you should make for IG reels and Tik Tok?

Posted by Pretzelman1234 on March 15, 2023 at 8:31 pm

I just started a fashion jewelry business and am going to try my hand at making IG reels and TikToks. I’m wondering if the content should be the same for both, and I can just repost my TikToks to IG Reels or vice-versa? Or maybe the content should be different, and I should be more sales-y on IG and making more engaging content on TikTok or the other way around? TIA!

If you’re new to the business I suggest posting your same video content on both platforms (without watermarks!) and then schedule photos and feed posts for IG. Even this will take so much work it’ll be hard to do more. If you want to do more though I’d focus on TikTok (especially unique trending sounds) as there’s more organic growth atm. But make sure to send them all over to your shop wherever that is cause conversion is usually the problem
Doing anything is always better than doing nothing. I usually post my TikToks two weeks before posting the same on IG just to give some variety but most people won’t have seen the content anyways sooo..

For the most part yes. You can reuse the video footage but generally the content needs to be presented differently. Also keep in mind the apps want you to use their native editors, so the tik tok fonts/editor/filters on tik tok and the ig fonts/templates on ig. The apps can recognize when you download and repost from the other. Trending audios are different as well. Take a look at other brands to see what they put out on each platform and how they differ.

Would you be willing to hire an affordable editor? I’ve clipped + edited videos for 2 agencies since last year and I’d love to do the same for you. My goal is to build a portofolio and gain more experience, not really about money.

Yes, there is a difference in the content you should make for Instagram Reels and TikTok, even though they share some similarities in terms of their short-form video format.

I would never simply repost one video from one platform to the other. You can use the same footage but edit it differently to suit the other platform. It’s important to tailor your content to each platform’s unique audience and culture to maximise engagement and reach.

Instagram Reels is more of an extension of the Instagram platform and is meant to be integrated into the user’s Instagram profile. Focus on showcasing visually engaging, polished content that’s well-aligned with your brand’s values, mission, and aesthetics.

The content on TikTok is typically more casual, and it’s important to show authenticity, humor, and creativity. TikTok is a great platform for showcasing your brand’s fun, relatable side, while still promoting your products or services in a lighthearted way.

The content you create for each platform should be tailored to the platform’s audience. For example, IG Reels is more focused on short-form videos, so you could create content that showcases your jewelry in a creative way. you should also focus on creating content that is more sales-oriented and engaging. On TikTok, you could create content that is more entertaining and fun, such as tutorials or behind-the-scenes videos.

I would also suggest creating content that is relevant to your target audience, engaging, and consistent. You may also need to use target ads for both platforms to make sure you are reaching the right audience. Or what I prefer a growth service such as Ascend viral to help you get potential followers organically. This will make it easier for you to work on your content and let them do the hard work. You should also use relevant hashtags and post regularly to increase your reach.
