  • Is SEO worth doing?

Posted by Photographerofship on March 5, 2023 at 5:25 pm

    Hey guys,

I own a video production company in a smaller city. I’ve chatted with a friend who own a marketing agency and he checked a few keywords for me. It seems like there is only about 94 people searching for my services a month. He said it was almost not worth focusing on SEO. Would you agree?

That’s 94 searches a month not 94 people that search one time and leave for the year. Over a year, that could be well over 1,000 searchers finding out about your new business. If even 20 people found you a month because they were searching in your area, would that not make a difference to your bottom line? These numbers are estimates. So even a 0 search can be very lucrative. In fact, most seo specialists start with these smaller numbers as they can become profitable quicker and easier to rank for.

Where do you rank for those keywords? Page 1? No one goes to page 2 and beyond. Rarely do people look at the bottom of the top page too.

Lol… im assuming your friend who checked your site and gave you that info is NOT very popular in his field.

His advise is horrible. 94? Numbers are ALWAYS rounded up, so where did he get 94 from.

Also in your niche and in any niche theres a ton of variations of searches as people all search differently:

    Hire photographer “city”

    Find cheap photographer near me

    Photographer for X event

    Photographer in “city”

    And so on.

SEO is always a great driver of traffic with a direct intent to buy or book a service.
Do it. Even if it takes months to give results, you’ll then get results for months/years to come with basic upkeep.

The photographer thing was an example, and SEO should not be your only driver but a great extension of your entire marketing strategy. You can SEO your reels, you can SEO great blog posts helping people deciding whether or not to hire a video guy for weddings, best tools to use for video editing and so on, making your site a good source of information and not just selling your shit.

Search “video production [your city]” along with a few neighboring cities you’d consider to be your market. Then search “video production near me”. Finally, search for any specific services you provide “wedding videographer [city], “commercial videographer [city]”. Etc.

If you’re in the top 3 for all of those, you can afford to divert your time and energy elsewhere. If not, you can definitely generate business by improving your ranking

For SEO, you might want to stick with the following:

    1. Local SEO
    2. Niche SEO (sports, small business marketing, service-marketing, product (pick a niche) video production) and create special pages for that to get you started.

    #2 Explained
Lets say your business niche is creating video for e-commerce companies that want to have product review videos on their site – create a specific page on your site for Product Review Videos especially if you have a particular focus of products like outdoor products, fitness products, gardening, and more.

You can also have sections on the site for video production of Business Services like testimonials for lawyers, accountants, FAQs or Interview style videos to get to know the business or owner a bit better….

Events like high school sporting events, Weddings, event marketing like company christmas parties, family reunions… etc.)

Have a detailed page for each of these niches with good content, and photography, and maybe even have examples of videos you’ve already done within that Niche.

That is how you create SEO for video production, IMO.

Success or failure is dependant on your SEO in multiple ways.

What your friend told you, you want to do the exact opposite of that.

Also if you don’t do extensive keyword research, your chances for success are 0%.

Keyword research and other research should be the most time consuming aspect of running your business.

If it isn’t, you will fail, there isn’t any other possibility that can occur.

Your job is to rank first page in search engine serps.

That’s what you need to do.

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DO THAT IF YOU’RE IGNORING SEO.

Maybe your friend is trying to sabotage you?

Or maybe he’s not very bright about any of this.

Everything revolves around SEO, if you ignore it, you won’t have to worry about ppl ignoring your site

Because they’ll never see it in the first place.

You can not worry as much if you’re using PPC but even then following good SEO practice, it usually leads to lower CPC prices.

You should give your friend an award for “worst advice ever”

Does he also tell you to shoot heroin in your eyeballs??

If your main keywords are 100 then long tail keywords that some are suggesting might be literally nothing… look at other main keywords that accurately describe your business…

    Videographer

    Audio visual tech

    Professional video

    Video pro
